Sport specialists to support children’s charity

07/04/10

A Cardiff-based sports specialist company has joined forces with a Welsh children’s charity to help raise money for terminally ill children.

SportStars, a business which specialises in providing high quality sports coaching for children aged 4-12, has chosen The Joshua Foundation as its chosen charity for 2010.

Hoping to raise plenty of money for The Joshua Foundation, SportStars will be taking part in a number of planned fundraising events throughout the year as well as organising sponsored events for SportStars afterschool clubs in local schools across south Wales.

On choosing The Joshua Foundation as its nominated charity, general manager of SportStars, Emrys Haugen Said: “Our new partnership with The Joshua Foundation has given us a fantastic opportunity to raise much needed funds for a truly worthwhile cause and we are delighted to support their invaluable work this year.

“We work with thousands of children every day in schools across south Wales and we hope that we can encourage pupils of all ages to help raise money and help better the lives of families in Wales and across the UK.”

Established in 1998, The Joshua Foundation was set up by Sarah Cornelius, who lost her son Joshua to cancer in December 1998. Over a decade later the Cardiff-based charity has helped over 1000 terminally ill children and their families from across the UK to fulfil their dreams.

Nicky Piper, head of community fundraising said: “The Joshua Foundation works tirelessly to provide terminally ill children and their families with the chance to enjoy once in a lifetime trips and experiences.

“Without the help of company’s like SportStars we would not be able to provide terminally ill children with positive experiences which in turn, create lasting memories for their families.  We are delighted to be selected as SportStars nominated charity and look forward to fundraising with them in 2010.”
